Prologue: Old Friends, New Faces

    Twenty years after the imprisonment of the Dark Master within the planet’s core, a renowned legend decides to pay a long-overdue visit to an old friend and former mentor……..

~*~*~

    “Well, young dragon, it certainly has been a while since we last saw each other… at least in the flesh. You must have many questions, and I assure you that I will provide you with the answers that you seek.  But first, you must sit, and listen patiently and attentively. What of the previous Chronicler? He has never left us – he is standing right here before you as we speak. For we are one now – we share the same mind, the same duties, and the same burden. Yes, young dragon, a burden. I believe that the time is now right to tell you of his – that is to say ‘my’ – tale. The Chronicler spent countless centuries recording the history of our kind, a duty that he has now passed on to me. Every dragon has a story to tell, and those who now rest within the stars have all told theirs in full. All except one, one who is fated never to rest among those in the night sky. His name is Xaevier. He goes by many other names, too, some of which you may be familiar with; the ‘Cursed One’, the ‘Argent Scholar’, the ‘Chronicler’…. the ‘First of Purple Scales’.

    “I can see by the bemused look on your face that you seek a more detailed explanation. Come and sit with me a while, and I shall tell you a tale, lost in the river of time and unknown to nearly every soul, that is more fantastical than any you may have heard thus far. We have all the time in the world, after all, young dragon.”

    “Fifty centuries, or five Golden Cycles, in the past, a deviant was hatched into a small family of dragons. This abnormal hatchling had the fortune of having two relatively young, healthy parents, and a single older brother. His sire’s scales were of crimson hue, boasting his blazing elemental blood to the world around him. His mother’s hide sported many radiant shades of cyan, cobalt, and lapis lazuli, beautifully displaying her own frosty element. The hatchling’s brother Glacignis, an uncommon child of both fire and ice, was handsome of face, but had a truly arrogant and jealous disposition. The deviant himself bared no physical resemblance to his parents, other than his double set of jagged horns and spade-shaped tail blade. He was unusually small, even for a newly hatched whelping. His eyes were the color of a fine morning mist, shrouded from sunlight by a thick covering of clouds, and his ventral plates resembled slabs of slate recently showered by a light rain. However, the most abnormal thing about the hatchling was the color of his scales – they were a pale shade of grape that glistened like minute amethyst crystals in the sunlight. Ever since birth, this malformation caused the young dragon nothing but misery. He was shunned by everyone, strangers and family alike. It was only his mother that saved him from total abandonment. She was a kind drake who, despite her child’s mutation, wanted him to grow and live a happy, prosperous life. After convincing her mate to let them keep and raise the hatchling, she named him “Xaevier”, meaning “one who hungers for knowledge” in their ancient tongue.

This is his story.

Chapter One: Aberrant Genesis

                “Aww, it’s the little purple mutant. What’cha reading there, whelp?” a muscular, cyan-scaled dragon with adorning crimson decals sneered as he sauntered up to the small grape-colored drake, a cruel smirk spreading across his sleek, chiseled face.
                “Can’t you see I’m studying, Glacignis? Can you please just leave me with my scrolls in peace for five whole minutes?” Xaevier replied, barely lifting his snout from the stained, time-worn history scroll he had been engrossed in for the past three hours. The sun had already started to sink behind the lush, green hills of Avalar far to the west, splattering the heavens with radiant splashes of coral and fuchsia.

Heck, as all of you know, I never stick with my projects.
But hey, I wrote this prologue to something I'm HOPING to write! :D That's a first step, at least!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Synopsis - Twenty years after Spyro and Cynder sealed Malefor within the core of the planet, Spyro returns to the While Isle to visit the Chronicler. We never hear Spyro speak in the prologue, nor are provided with any physical description of him or his surroundings. However, we do overhear the new Chronicler's conversation with Spyro, and we discover that he has an intriguing story to tell his old friend and former mentee. As Ignitus took on the responsibility of recording the history of this new era, he also received all of the previous Chronicler's memories, and within these memories was the story of the former Chronicler's childhood and past deeds. This story was surprising, to say the least, and held the answers to many unanswered questions that have been pondered over for generations of dragonkind.
Xaevier - "Zae-vee-er"
Glacignis - "Glae-sig-niss"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Before any of you ask, no. Spyro and Cynder will not make an appearance in this at all (if I actually get around to writing it lol), and neither will any of the characters from the Legend of Spyro series or previous games, with the exception of the Chronicler. However, this story will (hopefully) put him in a very different light for you all, and his character has almost no resemblance to the wise old scholar that we meet in the Eternal Night.
Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy this prologue!
